We were stoked to make it up to Townsend, MT and find a great campsite just past the highway last night. Got on the river by 8 this morning and spent a half hour paddling dead into huge winds to find a pullout spot for the portage.
Decided to not look a gift horse in the mouth and accepted the offer to have mom portage us around Canyon Ferry and Hauser lakes to get through severe thunderstorms and high winds.
We put back in at the Hauser dam portage path...heck of a steep downhill to have a 300 lb canoe behind!
