Lake Oahe - Round 2

hoenesal

Had a fun paddling companion for a while. While I've learned the prairie rattlers (SD's only venomous snake) can swim, I believe this guy was a bull snake or brown snake. Please chime in if anyone knows for sure.

Two days of late starts, so not bad as the paddling goes. Sadly, I left the Bridge City Marina to kick off round two with Lake Oahe on Sunday. Knocked out 10 miles that day and 9 today. These lakes are hard.

Back to nice gravel bars for campsites though instead of mud.

Lake Oahe, which I love, is huge and when the wind blows strong, it can have some horrific waves on it. If not frozen over, it also can produce lake effect snows in the winter. You are lucky in that fall, is usually the calmest season we have in SD. If you are not yet passed Spring Creek Rec. Area, north of Pierre, you can stop and have a cheeseburger & fries at the restaurant. Cow Creek has a restaurant too. I'm a dog owner too and a Marine veteran. Take care and Semper Fi.

Shoot! I sailed past there just this morning and I was dreaming of cheeseburgers! I'd have love to meet you. Sounds like my kind of place😊 I'll be sure and stop in if I make it back that way. Semper Fi!
