**Catch up post from 9/9-9-10**
This may be the only time you hear me be grateful for a SSE wind. Up by 6, we were sailing by 6:30 this morning. I knew Little Bend, a 20 mile NW/SE horseshoe, wasn't little.
Any wind was going to help on one side and hurt on the other. Made it 10 miles out to the far side of the point before the SE wind quit helping and turned around and slapped me in the face. Took less than 3 hours to sail 10 miles, then the last mile took more than an hour.
Time to stop for the day. Need to steer clear of rattlesnakes, but that puts us in biting fly territory near the water again. 🙄
Woke up to a surprise west wind! I'm on the northwest tip of the Little Bend on Lake Oahe. This was kind of my groundhog day...was I going to finish this lake in the next couple days or was I looking down the barrel of a week of headwinds?
I'll take the next couple days for $100. Uneventfully paddled the next 9 miles to finish Little Bend with a little help from my friend, the wind. Then, the wind died, and since I had gear to clean and dry out, I camped after 14 miles. I'm still 20+ miles from the dam, but it's within reach.
Side note, I hate flies.
Flies and Ticks!! Couple of God's creatures hard to understand His mindset!!😊 4 epic days of river navigation!!!
Stay safe & allow nature to set your pace🛶💜 Enjoying your journey. I’ll be meeting the Mo next May🤪
Just amazed by the trip, knew it be really awesome but it has surpassed anything I could have imagined you going thru !!
